Given the growing and uncertain path of the current coronavirus public health crisis that occurred in the Spring of 2020 and the need for all of our medical professionals to be available to serve their patients and their communities, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) decided to cancel it’s in-person annual conference, Educating Leaders 2020, in Washington, DC. The 2020 Educating Leaders conference was replaced with a virtual event that consisted of an abbreviated program.
Educating Leaders 2020
We are pleased to provide you with valuable insights and updates shared by our colleagues during the remote conference. Some of the topics covered include COVID-19 best practices, updates from ACGME, COCA, NBOME, and empathy in medical education.
Here you’ll find some of the presentations, conference sessions, and posters that were shared during the virtual event; more are to come, so please check back often as we update the page.
- No, we are unable to offer CME for the virtual event.
Yes, we will be working with the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, to have the abstracts published. We will keep our presenters apprised of our progress.
Visit the Educating Leaders website for updated information on the virtual event we are moving to, and registrations. AACOM has set up an email (AC2020-C19@aacom.org) for you to contact us with questions regarding the changes.
Will this be indexed for PubMed?
No, presently we do not have an indexing for the abstracts.
This project’s very similar abstract was published after presenting at OMED. Would I be allowed to have it published again?
Not if it is the same abstract; if it is the same, please withdraw it or choose not to permit publication.
Can I publish my work again after it has appeared as an abstract in the JAOA?
Each author must complete a copyright release form to the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association. Note: Co-authors reserve all proprietary rights and the right to use all or part of the abstract in future works of their own. All authors may use the abstract in a future published article, and assign the copyright for that article, including the copyright, to the publishing journal. If co-authors want to reprint their abstract elsewhere, reprint permission can be obtained from the JAOA.
Has AACOM done this before?
AACOM will refund 50% of the fee, in the original form of payment. The remaining 50% will be used toward the virtual event and the non-refundable costs incurred by AACOM for the conference.
No. If you can’t join for the virtual event which is scheduled for the same dates of the conference, you will have access to some conference materials after the virtual event. We hope you will take advantage of these!
